Sweet Dreams

Beyonce's 2009 video for her hit song 'Sweet Dreams' uses many of the techniques seen in our inspirational video by Gareph Pugh and SHOWstudio. In the music video, there is alot of multiplying and duplicating of images, and also mirroring. I have listed below the main techniques but have also left the video on here for you to watch in full, enjoy!

(1.19 min)
This is a mirroring effect that also incorporates a merging of two frames in one shot. Ultimately, Beyonce is dancing individually in one frame. This is merged with a different frame that shows her dancer mirrored symmetrically whilst walking.

(1.20 min)

In this shot, Beyonce has been mirrored symmetrically whilst also being filmed walking forwards. This is then rewinded to make it appear to the audience that she is simply walking backwards. The billowing cloth is similar to that used in the Gareth Pugh film when the naked model flings it over her body.

(1.28 min)
Two frames are merged here; Beyone is alone in one, whilst her dancers are duplicated in another.

(1.38 min)
In this shot, Beyonce is walking to the left holding a billowing cloth behind her. This image is multiplied by three or four times and put together to make it appear that a line of Beyonce's are walking accross the screen.

(1.41 min)
This is essentially two frames combined into one; Beyonce in her own screen, placed onto another screen that has duplicated the image twice so that overall it looks like three Beyonces walking in a row.
(2.17 min)
Mirroring effects are used here to overlap images of Beyonce so that it looks like they are grabbing and pulling at eachother.

(3.08 min)
The dancers have been multiplied several times to give the illusion that there are more of them in the shot.
